Why sit in traffic? Here’s how to make the most of the holiday with fun spots right in our own backyard.

With the long Labor Day weekend just around the corner, you don't have to go far to have a great time. Here are four simple ideas for getting out and enjoying our corner of town.
1. Go for a ride on the Silver Comet Trail. Ready to get moving? The Silver Comet Trail is one of the best things about living in Mableton. Since it’s a paved trail with no cars, it’s a safe and easy spot for a family bike ride or a peaceful walk.
2. Take a hike at Heritage Park. The trails here wind through the woods and follow Nickajack Creek, making you feel like you’ve gotten away from it all. It’s a great spot for a quiet morning hike to clear your head or for exploring nature with the kids.
3. Have a family cookout at Thompson Park. Got kids with energy to burn? Head over to Thompson Park. It has a huge playground, big open fields, and a lake where you can do a little fishing. Grab one of the picnic tables, fire up a grill, and enjoy a classic Labor Day cookout.
4. Gather the Crew at Nickajack Park. If your long weekend plans involve getting friends or family together, check out Nickajack Park. You can get a game going on the basketball or tennis courts, or take it old-school with a game of kickball on the softball fields. There’s also a pavilion for big groups and a playground for the kids.
Whatever you decide to do, we hope you have a safe and happy long weekend!
