Updated: 6 days ago

At a special called City Council meeting on Tuesday, October 6, Mayor Michael Owens, and Council officially announced the appointment of Dr. Anita Allen as the city's inaugural police chief.
With Chief Allen now at the helm, we are officially one step closer to the May 2027 deadline to fully launch the Mableton Police Department.
Mayor Michael Owens emphasized the importance of her hire, stating, "Selecting our first police chief is one of the most critical decisions in shaping Mableton's future". He added that Dr. Allen brings "a deeply rooted commitment to community-centered policing".
According to the City of Mableton's official press release, the City Council approved Dr. Allen in a unanimous 7-0 vote. She brings over 25 years of public safety experience, most recently serving as the Chief of Police at Albany State University.
A Rigorous Selection

District 4 Councilwoman Cassandra Brown assured the public that the city has "gone through a rigorous process." After technical panel interviews with current police chiefs and law enforcement experts, Brown noted that Dr. Allen "scored number one throughout that entire process." During the final evaluations to determine the best fit for Mableton, Brown concluded that Chief Allen was "head and shoulders above the competition."
Looking Ahead

"I am deeply honored to be chosen as Mableton's first Chief of Police," said Dr. Allen. "Building a police department is a profound responsibility, and my priority will be establishing a culture of integrity, transparent communication, and dedicated service".
Dr. Allen will step into her new role in the coming weeks as Mableton prepares for the official launch of full police operations, targeted for June 1, 2027.
