Mableton kicked off 2026 with a sense of renewal and a packed house at the First Tuesday of January Required Organizational Meeting per Charter on January 6th. It was an evening of "firsts" as we welcomed a new year and new leadership, and celebrated a major win for our city's infrastructure safety.
New Mayor Pro Tem Elected

The council also elected District 1 Councilman Ron Davis to serve as the new Mayor Pro Tem.
The "Pro Tem" (short for pro tempore, or "for the time being") is a critical leadership role within the city. The Mayor Pro Tem serves as the acting Mayor if the Mayor is absent or unable to perform their duties, ensuring that Mableton’s government remains functional and responsive at all times.
The Swearing-In Ceremony
Two new council members have officially taken their seats to represent their respective districts. The ceremony marked the beginning of the terms for:

Michael McNeely (District 2)

Cassandra Brown (District 4)
They bring a shared commitment to local stewardship and will serve as vital voices for their neighbors in the years ahead.

Major Safety Milestone: $240,000 Federal Safety Grant
In his closing comments, Mableton Mayor Michael Owens announced that Mableton had been awarded a $240,000 Safe Streets and Roads for All grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation.
These funds will focus on reducing roadway fatalities and serious injuries. This marks a major step forward in making our streets safer and more walkable for everyone.
